Imagine
a dry landscape, burnt by the sun, surrounded by mountains, a red and
dry soil and beyond, the snowy summit of the Cordillera, a natural barrier
protecting the country.
Following
the long and hot road, we can see the vineyards, hard to access: surrounded
by barbed wire, lined by trees and bushes.
Leaving
the main road, we follow a narrow path full of potholes and barking
dogs to reach the bodegas, passing through small villages, totally deserted
in the middle of the day and waking up after nightfall.

Imagine
some hamlets with dusty roads, a nice square in the centre, the shadow
of high trees, a miracle of freshness for those who want to stroll or
sit for a while on one of the benches. Around the square, magnificent
colonial buildings and colourful churches.
Imagine
outdated but delightful hotels, patios decked out with flowers, a black
and white tiling. Long corridors and a breakfast served in the old dining
room. A worn carpet, ancient wallpapers, the charming atmosphere of
an ancient building which, even old, keeps all the details of their
past magnificence.

During the day, visits, and at night, a restaurant: a nice place owned
by a family where we can have dinner like "at home". We discuss, ask
questions, order food. Almost no choice on the wine list? No problem,
we are fine with a small glass of wine.
What
a surprise when the food arrives with a bottle of the owner's favourite
wine, not listed on the wine list: the owner has taken it from his personal
cellar. We smile and thank, taste and share. Impossible to pay for the
wine when we ask for the bill: the favourite wine is offered… what an
elegant way of sharing tastes!
